If you’re heading off somewhere hot for an early Autumn getaway, the last thing you want to experience is sunburn. Not only can it be extremely painful (speaking from experience) and leave you looking far from a Spanish señorita, it can in the worst case scenario contribute to skin cancer. I have to admit, I haven’t always been as serious about sun protection as I should be. While I’ve always loved the tanned look, I’m rightly now more sensible about tanning safely and protecting my skin from the sun. As I’m in my early twenties, I also have to worry about anti-aging (great) and keeping my sunscreen topped up is a necessary step to help keep the wrinkles at bay!
While applying sunscreen is a holiday necessity you definitely shouldn’t skip, I don’t think I’m alone in sometimes finding it a bit of a hassle. To be honest, if I’m on holiday the only thing I want to be thinking about is what flavour mojito to order from the cocktail menu, not constant sunscreen reapplications. I was therefore looking forward to trying P20 Once A Day Sun Protection SPF30*, £13.29 on my recent trip to Spain, which contains UVA and UVB filters and promises 10 hours of ‘very water resistant’ sun protection.
The first thing I really loved about P20 was its completely clear transparent application- no more furious blending of streaks of bright white sun lotion for me! But one thing I didn’t love was its scent. P20 to me smells disappointingly chemical due to its fragrance free formula and alcohol base and is lacking that signature ‘sun lotion’ scent that takes you to the beach with one sniff. Despite this, I’m certainly willing to sacrifice the scent in exchange for a quick and easy once a day sun protection routine that lasts 10 whole hours. Apply this in the morning and you’re basically sorted for the whole day, whether you want to spend it flicking through the latest issue of Cosmo or snorkelling by a coral reef. One thing to note is you do have to wait 15 minutes before heading out to the sun or the pool after you have applied P20, but you can always just find a shady spot while you wait to be sun ready.
Price wise, although more than £13 for 100ml may seem more expensive than other sunscreen options, you have to remember you only have to apply this once a day. This is unlike other sunscreens which you’re like to use up much more quickly, so I think it’s great value for money. I found P20 to be easy to apply and reasonably quick drying too and the most important test is that my skin didn’t burn when I used this sun protection. You can use P20 under makeup too, just wait 15 minutes before applying your base. It was great to know that even though I was in and out of the pool, I didn’t have to worry about reapplying my sunscreen due to its very water resistant formula.
While the 100ml size wasn’t the largest, I actually really liked having a travel friendly bottle that didn’t take up too much space in my suitcase. It’s available in a 200ml size too if you’re planning a longer trip though. I tried out the factor 30, but P20 also comes in SPF 15 and SPF 20 if you’re looking for a lower factor (or for the rare bout of UK sun) and SPF 50+ if you’re being extra sun safe. A must have for me in your holiday suitcase.
